Adding Facebook to your Meebo IM network is a little different than the rest of the IM networks that are supported on Meebo. This section will walk you through the initial steps you'll need to follow in order to add Facebook.
Adding Facebook to your Meebo IM network
After you've logged into your Meebo account, you can add Facebook to your IM Network using the account link at the top of the Meebo desktop or the Sign on to more accounts on the left side of the page.
Or
- Select the Sign on to more accounts link or the account link.
- If you've selected the account link at the top of the page, select Add Account and select Facebook from the network drop down menu.
- If you've selected the Sign on to more accounts link, simply select Facebook from the drop down menu.
- Select connect to facebook.
- Enter your email address and password for your Facebook account and select Connect.
Select Allow Offline Access.
Note: Meebo uses the offline access feature to log you into Facebook Chat without your having to log into Facebook.com. If you do not allow offline access at this point, the next time you go to Facebook.com while logged into Facebook Chat on Meebo, you'll have to log into Facebook manually. If you allow offline access, you'll be logged in automatically. Remember, you'll have the option to edit your permissions settings through your Facebook account.
You should now see your name in the login box. Before you sign on, please make sure to select Add to my meebo account and Connect on startup
Note: The Sign on as invisible option cannot be used with Facebook Chat.
- Select Sign On.
Congratulations! You have successfully added Facebook to your Meebo IM network.
Logging into Facebook through Meebo
Logging into Facebook through Meebo is a little different than the rest of the IM networks that are supported on Meebo. This section will walk you through the initial steps you'll need to follow in order to allow access to Facebook IM through Meebo.
When you first come to Meebo you'll notice that the Facebook icon will be at the bottom of the sign on box along with other supported networks.
- Select the Facebook icon.
- Select connect to facebook.
- Enter the email address and password you use to login to Facebook. This will log you into your Facebook account. Note that this means if you go to the Facebook site, you will be logged in there as well.
- Select Allow Chat. This gives Meebo permission to access Facebook's chat.
- You should now see your name in the login box. Select Sign On to the right.
Congratulations! You have successfully logged into Facebook through Meebo. The only time you'll need to go through this process again is if you clear your browser's cookies.
What is the "x" for?
Clicking the "x" next to the name in the Facebook Chat login box lets you exclude Facebook from the accounts you are logging into when you click Sign On.
What happens when I click "not you?"?
If there is a Facebook account currently logged in on your computer, clicking not you? will logout the account from both the Meebo signon page and Facebook.com. This is in case someone else has logged into their Facebook account on the computer you are using to access Meebo.
Adding Buddies
When you add a new buddy to Facebook, they will automatically show on your buddy list on Meebo. Note: You cannot add buddies to Facebook Chat through Meebo.
Removing Buddies
To remove a Facebook Chat buddy, simply remove the buddy from your Facebook friends list on Facebook.
Unsupported Actions for Facebook
Unfortunately, some of the things you can do on other IM networks added to Meebo are not supported for Facebook Chat at this time.
This includes:
- Facebook group chat
- Blocking Facebook buddies
- Add and remove Facebook buddies
- Setting your Facebook status message through Meebo
- Offline buddies
- Logging in as invisible
How to access your Facebook settings for Meebo
- When you first log into your Facebook account, you'll see Settings towards the upper right hand side of the page.
- Hover over Settings for the drop down menu with three options. Select the third option, Application settings.
- Here you'll see a list of all the applications you've added to your Facebook profile.
If you do not see Meebo in your list of applications, select the show menu at the top of the page and select Authorized.
- To disconnect your Facebook profile from Meebo entirely you need to hit the X button to remove Meebo from your applications list.
- To revoke specific permissions, click on the Edit Settings link.
- Select the Additional Permissions tab to bring up your options for Facebook Chat or access data. These are very important - deselecting these options will stop Meebo from accessing your Facebook information.
