iPhone/iPod touch FAQ

General questions

Is the iPhone/iPod touch Meebo app free?

Yes. The Meebo app is available as a free download from the Apple app store.

Will chatting with the Meebo app count against my texting limit?

No. Meebo sends and receives messages using your data plan, not your SMS texting protocol. Check with your wireless provider about any limits on your data plan.

I noticed you started running ads. Is there a premium version I can pay for so I can stop seeing ads?

Not at this time. We are very proud of the new ad units we have created for the iPhone app and we want to give people a chance to see and interact with them. If you open an ad you are not interested in, you can always close it by tapping the 'x' in the upper-left corner.

Does the Meebo app work differently on the iPod touch than on the iPhone?

Somewhat. The biggest difference is that the iPod touch is not a cellular phone and therefore is not connected to a cellular network, so you will need to be within range of a WiFi network to which you have access to chat. There are also some differences in how push notifications work that are described under Push Notifications.

Does the Meebo app support push notifications?

Yes. The Meebo app can receive push notifications at any time on the iPhone and when connected to a WiFi network on the iPod touch. See Push Notifications for more information.

Does the Meebo app take advantage of the multitasking ability in OS4?

Yes! Our update released in October of 2010 adds support for multi-tasking. Now if you leave the app and then rejoin it you'll go right back into the conversation you were having without having to wait for the app to load.

Does the Meebo app take advantage of the increased resolution/retina display of the iPhone 4?

Yes. Our updated released in October of 2010 now supports the beautiful enhanced resolution available in the iPhone 4.

Is there a version of the Meebo app designed for the iPad?

Not at this time, however we are aware that this is something that iPad users are very interested in.

Chats

Can I use landscape mode with the Meebo app?

Yes. The Meebo app will automatically detect when you rotate your iPhone or iPod touch and switch into landscape mode. This feature can be disabled as described under Settings.

Accounts

What kinds of accounts can I connect to my Meebo ID?

Meebo allows you to connect to almost every IM network and chat-enabled social network, including (but not limited to) AOL/AIM, Yahoo!, Windows Live Messenger, Facebook, MySpace, Google/G-chat.

How can I connect my IM accounts to my Meebo ID?

You can add IM accounts to your Meebo ID either through the iPhone/iPod touch Meebo app (see Managing IM Accounts) or through meebo.com (see Managing IM Networks). Once you have added an account in either place, you will be able to see it however you log into Meebo.

Do I need an existing account on an IM network in order to add it to Meebo?

Yes. In order to add an account on a network such as Facebook, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo!, or AIM to Meebo, you must first create an account on the desired network. Once you have created accounts on these networks, Meebo allows you send and receive messages within any of your existing networks using a single application.

Can I add multiple accounts on the same network?

Yes, with the exception of Facebook. If you have multiple accounts on Yahoo!, Windows Live Messenger, or any other network, you can add and manage them all separately using the Meebo app.
