senior system administrator (doctor ops)
Position located in Mountain View
We're seeking a highly enthusiastic, self-motivated individual who will be a core member of the Operations team. You will need strong skills in implementing and managing high-availability, mission-critical infrastructure, and should be a dedicated problem solver who can multi-task and prioritize well in a fast-paced and demanding environment. This is a full-time position and you will report directly to the Sr. Director of Operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Hardware/OS performance analysis and tuning, enhancements, and corrective actions.
- Script development to automate processes and monitor system performance.
- Planning of infrastructure changes and improvements.
- Documentation of implementation processes and procedures.
- Staying up-to-date with competing technologies.
- After-hours and on-call responsibilities as required or defined.
- Some travel and weekend work will be required.
The candidate must have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience with designing, implementing, configuring, administering,
and troubleshooting mission-critical, 24x7x365, large-scale environments.
- Mastery of Linux system administration in an Internet facing, high-volume, high-growth environment. This would include installation, configuration, hardening, patching, tuning, and monitoring of Linux-based systems.
- 5+ years of Linux system administration, including data center technical experience.
- 3+ years of administering Apache and/or Lighttpd.
- 2+ years of administering MySQL, including ability to create and execute SQL queries and interpret the results.
- Ability to deal effectively with people and clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills (familiarity with tools like strace, pstack, tcpdump, etc).
- Strong networking skills with experience in the major TCP protocols (HTTP, SSH, SMTP, etc).
- Excellent skills in at least one scripting language (PERL, Python, shell, etc).
- Familiarity with open source monitoring tools such as Nagios, Cacti, MRTG.
Big pluses:
- Experience with MySQL cluster, master/master replication, DRBD
- Experience with load balancers, routers, firewalls, and switches
- Experience with distributed file systems
- Leadership experience
