We love data and we strive to make our data accessible to everyone from our product teams, to our advertising partners, and to our user community. Meebo is seeking a visualization geek who uses pixels to provide insight into the structure and meaning of data. Our ideal candidate will translate complex large-scale data sets into colors, shapes, lines, and interactive diagrams. This individual will have widespread impact across Meebo’s entire organization and also to meebo’s partner and user community. The Visualization Engineer’s will strive to promote understanding, provide a framework for critical analysis, and inspire future product and strategy direction. When asked, “How does registration affect repeat usage rates?” The response might be, “I’m not sure but I know just the color-coded event bar graph to find out!”

Responsibilities:

• Develop internal dashboards to understand historical trends and usage behaviors
• Lead the development of a new product initiative to provide visualizations to our partners and user community.
• Work with the data team to understand how data is collected and what information it might convey
• Work with product and business teams to understand strategic objectives and how Meebo’s data could inform decision-making

Requirements:

• Familiarity with web-based data visualization frameworks like Prefuse, Flare, Flot, Protovis, and Google Charts API
• Expertise with HTML/CSS/JavaScript, ActionScript, and Python. Previous experience with Hadoop and/or graphics optimization is a plus
• Expertise with statistical concepts like deviation, confidence limit, and significance
• Can verbally create clear pictures for others. Can articulate reasoning for applying different information techniques to data sets.
• Pursuing a degree in CS, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Sciences, Information Graphics, or related field
