Introducing (drum roll, please) Meebo Community IM! Meebo is partnering with leading online communities to deliver free, integrated, open-protocol, Web-based instant messaging (IM) to users. Meebo Community IM is designed to facilitate live interaction and real-time conversations between members of online communities such as social media, gaming, and blog networks (to name a few).
What does that mean?
If you have an online community with over 20K daily users, Meebo can add IM to your website. Users will be able to chat with other community members as well as buddies outside your network, directly from your site.
How does it work?
Meebo will create an independent network for each partner based on XMPP (Jabber), an open protocol that allows users to connect seamlessly across multiple communities, either inside partner sites or in third-party clients that support Jabber.
Directly from the partner site, users will be able to chat with friends from their online community or connect with buddies on other networks, such as AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, Google Talk, and other partner communities, through the Meebo servers. Users can keep a presence on the partner's network, even when they are away from the site, by accessing their account at meebo.com.
